Live sand

Live sand is without a doubt one of the best products that has been developed for the marine hobby in the in the last 10 years. The benefits are just too numerous to mention. Live sand cycles a marine tank in DAYS... not weeks or months and eliminates the need for using Damsel fish to cycle a new tank. This is good for both the hobbist AND the damsel fish ! Many die during the cycling process because of the harsh water conditions, the ones that do survive usually become ruthless bullies and terrorize the tank when new fish are added. Damsels are very fast and hard to catch when removal is required. Most fish prefer a sand bottom and many fish require one. Sand is easier to keep clean and has better buffering qualities than crushed coral and is not as dusty. Tank maintance is much easier with sand and nitrates can be kept under control more easily as the tank matures.

Is Live sand really Alive? YES Live sand is marine sand that has been matured in ocean water so that it is packed full of millions of benefical bacteria and microflora growing in it,it is then packed in saltwater to keep the colonies alive until they are placed into a marine aquarium to begin cycling a new tank. Developing these colonies of benefical life forms can take many months when live sand is not used.

Live sand comes in several different mm sizes and either natural or black color. It is recommended to use 1 to 2 lbs per gallon of aquarium water. and is available in 20 and 40lb bags
